COLLEGE HOOPS MADNESS AND MORE

College basketball is gearing up as we inch closer to March Madness. With the NHL on their All-Star Break and the weekend off of the NFL for the Pro-Bowl, college hoops were able to slate their biggest match-ups.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

No. 7 Duke v.  No. 3 UNC
In one of the most highly anticipated matchups in college basketball, No. 7 Duke traveled to No. 3 North Carolina in one of the most storied rivalries. This game was electric and a back and forth battle for the entire game but UNC dominated the scoreboard for almost the entire game. Armando Bacot came up big for the Tar Heels as he scored 25 points to ensure them the win. On the other side, Duke's pair of Jared McCain and Kyle Filipowski kept the game close by scoring 23 and 22, respectively. With a final score of 93-84, the Tar Heels came out on top.

Indiana State v. Drake
In some MVC action, the Indiana State Sycamores took on the Drake Bulldogs to avenge their early season loss. Indiana State came out hot with their starting five, which accounts for a majority of their points this season to remain perfect at home. Jayson Kent was the talk of the night for recording a career-high 20 rebounds throughout the game. Ryan Conwell led the Sycamores with 21 points, only to be outdone by Robbie Avila, who recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. The Bulldogs had a quick scare as Tucker DeVries left the game early in the first half. DeVries made a return and cashed in 26 points for the Bulldogs. The final score, coming down to the final minutes, Indiana State 75 and Drake 67.

No. 2 Purdue v. No. 11 Wisconsin
In yet another battle for the top of the conference, No. 2 Purdue traveled to the Kohl Center to take on the No. 11 Badgers. Lance Jones recorded 20 points for the Boilermakers as they took down the Badgers. Zach Edey remained fairly quiet in the first half of play, only recording five points, but then returned to his POTY ways in the second. His performance notched himself his 10th Big 10 Player of the Week honors. For the Badgers, Tyler Wahl recorded a season-high, 20 points in the loss. The two teams will matchup again on March 10th to close out Big 10 regular season play.

Bradley v. ISU
As we inch closer to home, the Rivalry on I-74 took place this past Saturday. With Bradley ranked second in the MVC going into the game and ISU in the bottom three, the outcome was not so surprising. The Braves were playing well on both sides of the ball. Malevy Leons lead the Braves with 23 points going 8-for-10 in the field. Leons notched his 1,000th career point in a Braves uniform, making him the 53rd player in history to do so. The Braves will take on the Drake Bulldogs this upcoming week for a battle of second place. The Braves were able to settle the Redbirds with a final score of 73-60.

QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Who are you early favorites or sleepers to go far in March Madness?

Comments

  1. I will always root for Marquette when March comes around. Hopefully they will go far in the tournament. I also prefer watching Big East basketball over the Big 10, Big 12, and ACC.
