OU 71-GAME WIN STREAK BROKE, FINAL REGULAR SEASON NCAA GAMES , AND MORE

This was a huge weekend for college sports, with the ending of the NCAA basketball regular season and the shift into the conference tournaments, March Madness hopes are as alive as ever. Oklahoma softball losing to Louisiana (Ragin Cagun) softball to snapped a 71-game win streak. Not to be left out, but Caitlin Clark becomes the leading scorer in NCAA history (men's and women's). All of these sum up the crazy world of sports.

OKLAHOMA SOFTBALL STREAK SNAPPED

The Oklahoma Sooners softball program is one of the most prolific and winningest teams in the 21st century. The Sooners have won three back-to-back-to-back national championships, while maintaining a 71-game win streak, which was broken against Louisiana. The Sooners committed a season-high three errors in the 7-5 loss to the Ragin Cajun. The Sooners stuck to their roots on offense and outhit Louisiana 11-10. Oklahoma snaps their 71-game win streak, which was highlighted by 46 wins against PowerFive opponents, 40 shutouts, and 28 ranked wins.

I find this storyline similar to that of the movie, When the Game Stands Tall, which highlights the De la Salle football team who went on a long streak of winning football games. They found that they played to keep the streak alive and lost the love of the game. The movie takes the audience through the team redefining who they are and coming back to win a state championship. I find the Oklahoma softball team is going to have to do just that, they lost a lot of key figures last year in Grace Lyons, Jordy Bahl and Alex Storako, so they are going to have to find their identity as a team. But to me, that is the beauty of sports- being able to tell a story and watch a program rise through the downfalls. I think the media is the biggest proponent of this 'streak,' which affects the players and I think that now they are going to have to find their identity away from a win streak.

OTHER SPORTING NEWS:

- Caitlin Clark became the leading NCAA scorer with her free throw against No. 2 Ohio State. Clark passed Pete Maravich for the most points in NCAA history (men's and women's) with 3,685 points. Clark was unanimously chosen for the third season in a row as Big 10 Player of the Year.

- Looking ahead towards the Arch Madness tournament, Bradley will match up at 8:30 against the winner of the UIC and SIU game that will be played on Thursday at 8:30.

QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Will the Oklahoma win the NCAA Women's World Series this year, even though they do not have the depth at the pitching position?
